Acupuncture as a natural remedy acid reflux – Fact or Fiction?
At the risk of side effects and the desire to avoid chemicals and drugs, a natural remedy acid reflux is an attractive solution for many heartburn sufferers.
For this reason and the growing interest in Chinese medicine, many people wonder if there is evidence behind acupuncture therapies that are offered by many professionals.
First, let me say that it is hard to know if acupuncture works for you, as there are many causes of the condition and everyone reacts differently.
However, in recent years has been great interest in this subject by the medical community. For example, a gastroenterologist in Taiwan recently conducted two experiments were acupuncture designed to study the effectiveness of traditional Oriental medicine as a remedy acid reflux natural.
The study was published in the August 2005 American Journal of Physiology-Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology by Dr. Duowu Zhou, Wei Hao Chen, Katsuhiko Iwakiri, Rachael Rigden, Marcus Tippett and Richard H. Royal Holloway Hospital Adelaide, Australia.
In both experiments, it was reported that transient lower esophageal sphincter relaxations (TLESR), which directly acid reflux effects were inhibited by stimulation of acupoint electrical. This is a high-tech version of traditional acupuncture procedure. The two experiments stimulation was used to be felt only in the acupuncture point Neiguan found in the wrist.
This stimulation reduces transient sphincter lower esophageal relaxations by a staggering 40% from 6 an hour for three years and only half an hour. It was also significantly higher than the placebo group who received sham acupuncture stimulation at the hip, down TLESR by only 0.02 times per hour.
Of course, if acupuncture could work for you depends on your unique condition. You may want to try the therapy more than once to test whether or not it will succeed in his own case. Also you can try traditional forms of acupuncture as an acid reflux natural remedy. Has also been shown to be successful and is typically less expensive than stimulation electrical acupoint. On the other hand, is more likely to be covered by your health insurance policy.
Acupuncture has been an acid reflux remedy natural habitat for more than two thousand years in Chinese medicine. The traditional form was used up to and including the times to combat the symptoms of GERD, including pain, heartburn, nausea and vomiting. Modern research has proposed – as in the case of experiments at the Royal Adelaide Hospital – that acupuncture works by change in the way nerve cells signal each other and can influence the central nervous system function of releases of certain products chemicals in the body. It is the recent study, however, is the first to give evidence that may, in fact, benefit the lower esophageal sphincter function.
Although the study used electro-acupuncture stimulation rather than needles as a natural remedy acid reflux, researchers see no reason should not generally provide similar results, since both apply stimulation to a specific acupuncture point.
As an alternative to acupuncture, with needles or electrical stimulation, you could try acupressure. This is putting pressure on acupuncture points fingers and thumbs. You could try this at home, applying pressure to the P6 Neiguan or wrist. This is located inside of the wrist between the two large tendons. To find the place this natural remedy for acid reflux take your hand and bend towards you, the P6 point or Neiguan is in the center of wrist about two finger widths where the hand and wrist meet.
